It was the morning of Miro’s birthday, the sun rose and the morning dew sparkled upon the young shoots. In the distance, storm clouds were brewing, sounding like an orchestra preparing to play. Miro stirred from his reverie and went out to check upon his dream tree. What a sight! Many folk had come to give a flower for his birthday. It was totally pink!
It was bound to be an uplifting day, indeed. His friends had RSPVed their invitations well in advance and all was prepared ready. An hour later, he was dressed in his party regalia and greeting the arrivals. The food was laid out and a queue formed all along the table. The birthday cake sat centre stage with candles festooned all around. The gentle susurrus of party noise grew in tempo until an almighty clash sounded and lightning shattered the sky, out of the blue! The candles on Miro’s birthday cake suddenly burst into flame as a bolt passed overhead and one or two wizards’ hat sported a flame, also. In the months to come, the party became known as the Lightening Fest and the food tasted wonderfully toasted. What a day to remember!

Once upon a time, there was Unicorn, a fairy and a Jackalope. The Unicorn was feeling very down in the mouth and so, his hide had turned a soft blue. He was sad that he did not look like everyone else. The fairy offered a hot tea and tried its best to cheer the Unicorn up but, to no avail.
The next day, it enlisted the help of the Jackalope and together, they came up with a plan. They checked their pockets for gold and found that they had enough to hold a party. What better way to cheer their friend up than that?
The plans zipped back and forth between the speech bubbles which gave plenty of opportunities for typo errors to appear. Once they had everything decided, they began the arrangements. It took a couple of days but the party was ready in record time.
Their friends began arriving. They knocked at the door and entered, some donning party hats and giggling at each other’s costumes. The Unicorn was delighted that he was normal amongst all these weird and wonderful outfits. The winner of the costume competition was the witch who came floating upside down, dressed head to toe in yellow. Whatever was she dressed as, they all whispered? An exclamation mark, of course!

Looking into her crystal ball, the lady of the tent predicted the arrival of Dennis, the post dragon. Well, okay, no crystal ball was needed for that. Although, in a moment, she would be proven wrong. She had taken an examination in wizarding sciences and was waiting for the results. A pass would be nice but a distinction would be marvellous! Her pet fish swam up to the surface of his bowl, desperate to attract her attention. Oh no, she had forgotten to feed Swoosh! He flicked a droplet of water at her as she sprinkled his food on the water. One, two, three… eight flakes. No more, no less. She did not want to over feed him.
Just then, there was a pop as a mage from the academy arrived in a whirling vortex of teleportation. She gasped. This was it. The mage introduced himself and apologised for any delay. Poor Dennis had had a huge workload as it was exam result season and the Academy of Magic had had to help out with deliveries.
He took out a scroll and a magnifying glass to read it with. Clearing his throat, he announced to the room that she had passed with flying colours and had even won the award for the best dissertation that year. What a moment! Her heart skipped for joy and she hugged the mage and thanked him for bringing her certificate.
Buzz words you need to know: Homemade and Japanese because, if I'm going to get fat, I might as well enjoy it.
