Greetings Miramagicians,

We have now had the Growth Races for a while now . .
and the High Council would like your views as to how they are going.
To that end there are 4 questions: we would appreciate hearing your answers:

1. What do you like about the growing races?
2. What aspects don't you like?
3. What would you like to see as part of the growing races?
4. Which aspects can be improved and how?

Please reply to this thread with your thoughts and ideas.

The survey will stay open for one week.

Thank you for your time!

I thought I had replied to this, but my reply doesn't show up. If you see this twice, I apologize.

The short answer is that I don't like these races at all, and won't do them. There are several reasons, but the main answer is that every time I have tried, I did miserably, not even placing, and they seem a waste of time - the only way to win seems to be to use up far too many of rare resources (fertilizer spells) as well as careful preparation, and even then the odds of winning are small.

What I would like to see is the races removed, although since some people obviously love them, I don't care if they stay or not. However, making them be a part of the tasks for clearing a world means I'd rather spend rubies to get rid of them (and reroll) than play - and so I'm less likely to /buy/ rubies.

I don't particularly like the growing races. I have done a few of them since the task became part of the portal islands and have only been successful at placing once. Every other time I have had the task I have rolled the dice to get rid of it. From what I can see of the races the winners typically have the expand field and must be using fertilizers as well as a high level of seal of returns on their field. The last race I participated in was winking roots - the winner grew over 23,000 in 30 minutes. how can an average player even remotely compete with that?

The races are not in my way, so to speak, when playing the game so they could stay as they are. However, they should NOT be a part of the island tasks as in some cases it is almost impossible to place in the top three and even harder when the task is to win FIRST in the race.

I also have had a similar experience to the growth races as both Dervish1 and Brighteyes18 but here are my answers:

1. What do you like about the growing races?
It gives me something extra to do, for example when I am adding to the gold pot its great to time it to a race or when I need race and plants for the island tasks it can work out as a bonus.

2. What aspects don't you like?
Basically the reverse of what I just said, often their is little advantage to participating because the island tasks don't line up or the gold pot 1hr plant never lines up with a race.

3. What would you like to see as part of the growing races?
Having at least 1 race available for each plant in the roster would be nice. And more ribbons; more then character limitations and win limitations (5,15,30,...)

4. Which aspects can be improved and how?
I understand the advantages of spells and extended fields but those are easy to obtain through the valley tasks. Its kind of like the harvest races and big orders, it would be nice to have more ribbons then 5, 15, 30 and infinity.

1.) It gives me an excuse to multi-task. I often find a big order that has a few growing race plants in it, participate in races, then donate the plants to the big order. Unfortunately, it doesn't really net me anything extra, because...

2.) I have had similar experiences to others above. I understand that there are players out there who can spend all of their time and resources stockpiling certain things in the way of fertilizer and so on, but I am distinctly NOT one of them. I attend school and have a job, so on the off chance that I even have time to participate in a growing race, I set limits on what I use towards it, because those precious resources often are much more useful elsewhere.

3.) I wonder if some of this could be solved by introducing a new type of growing race, for an extra challenge? What I mean is, make a certain category of growing race, easily spotted with its own ribbon or token, where resources are not allowed at all (or only certain resources are allowed, such as the downpour spell but not fertilizer). Then it comes down to who can click fastest and who has the best luck at harvesting, rather than who can afford to spend the most.

4.) I would agree with some of the other suggestions that having more ribbon categories available could be helpful. Or, moreso, actual categories of players, like a ranking system. Then those who are willing to spend all those resources would quickly move into upper brackets and leave lower brackets for those of us who are occasional participants or more casual players.

I like the growing races as they are.
1) They are an additional challenge if you have time to participate.
2) That they do not tell what others submitted ... but I think also that any other option would be unfair or not doable ...
3) Also longer growing plants.
4) Sorry - no idea :( ... I think they are good as they are.

I don't like the growing races, I have done a few before a transformation, because of the tasks on the new islands, only players of a very high level can win, you need all the spells and a field without any rakes to have any chance of winning. I don't like using my mushroom to help, also the winnings are pitiful and not worth the hassle. I am nearly at the end of my ice island and I have 5 growing races to do, what chance would I have at getting 3rd place in all 5? I will roll the dice when I have finished the other quests. If you want to change them I would suggest that the growing races should have better plants and prizes also the main difference they should be restricted to different levels. That is the only way that lower levels have a chance of winning.

pumpkin8:
What I like about them is they don't take to long to complete.
What I dis like is it is next to impossible to win one because the high level transformers have so many more resources they can easily out produce lower level transformers and non transformers.
What I would like to see is limits on wins per a period of time. That way players with less resources might have a chance at even placing in them. If nothing else take them out of the island tasks and replace them with something everyone can do, The islands are hard enough without having to place 3rd or higher 3 times just to clear one square. People will simply give up trying to win races and/or clear the islands if nothing is done about this. I won't even enter a race if all 5 positions are held by high level transformers as it is a waste of my time.

Growing races do not interest me. I prefer the leisurely pace of the game's other activities.

I'm much more interested in seeing development go in the direction of being able to give things to others, help others, trade one-on-one with others.

1. What do you like about the growing races? Nothing. I refuse to do any more of them.
2. What aspects don't you like? I hate it that in order to place, you have to use many Master fertilizers and all of the other possible ways to speed up growth. This eliminates players who can't do that.
3. What would you like to see as part of the growing races? I would like to see them end.
4. Which aspects can be improved and how? Eliminate them.

I do not like the growing races. I thought I did great and was beat by over 15000 plants! They are a huge waste of time and I will not do them.

Honestly, I do not care at all for these races. I have participated in the 30 minute growing races only when I did not have a free dice roll to clear a weed patch. At the moment, I am fortunate in that I have (if I have won the extended field) 81 plots open, all the zone spells, a higher seal of returns, as well as the downpour (although I do not use fertilizer). Did I place accordingly to complete a quest? Yes. Did I feel good about it? Absolutely NOT! I have been told many times “it’s only a game” (& as silly as it may sound to others) for me…it’s not fun knowing I’ve probably displaced someone at a lower level with lesser resources who really needed a win (be it to clear a weed patch, earn mana, or gain experience points). I can certainly understand why some have become so discouraged. I can only guess these races have a great deal of “traffic” now because they are related to the portal quests. When this quest appears again, I hope to have a free dice roll to get rid of it. What I would like to see is…the growing race quests removed from all the portal islands.

I don't like them. I wouldn't mind if they went away.

Edit: They just don't do it for me. I pop in and out once or more per day and don't stick around long enough to want to participate. Plus, there is already enough to do w/o having those around.

I do not like the harvest races. They are time consuming and you are playing blind. If you want a chance to win you have to have a full field of 81 and use spells to cut down growing time. You don't know where you stand until it's ended many hours later. It isn't fun and I only played a few and then started to change quests away from them on the island challenges. Not a good set up to be fair for players of different levels. They need to be rebuilt from scratch with great thought to provide fairness to all no matter what your level. I'd be fine with just cancelling them completely.

Had a look at them in the beginning, looked unfair and lopsided to me because beginner players, and those whose rubies have to go a long way do not stand a real chance of winning. I much rather prefer the competitions in which the whole village can take part BUT, if there is to be a type of individual competition, why not structure it like the Dragonraces?
So that a player can put a challenge out there for a growing competition with certain limitations (like which levels can take part, which seeds, time frame etc) as set out by the challenger.

For Example:
Carrot Growing race challenge initiated by ChuChullain for levels 1 - 5 starting 5 hours from now and lasting half an hour.

Like with the Dragon races the prizes can be structured according to the time length of the competition.
It would be a bit more fair than the current growers competitions don't you think?

Actually, ChuChullain, I rather like that suggestion. Let us have a little more control over who we participate with. It does still favor those who have transformed multiple times, though, and have stockpiled resources... hm. Will have to think about possible tweaks.

I like growing races - They are fun. I have so far won 4

1) what I like
a) They take 1/2 hour - 2 hours so you can participate when you get back from work or school and don’t disturb sleep (unlike slow and med dragon races)
b) you can use them to grow plants for BO or plant merchant (example Phalysis give much greater goldper time growing than Key Cone or Fly)
b) I personally enjoy growing little plants.....its therapy and de-stresses me

2) What i dislike
a) I want more variety of plants as options - up to 1/2 an hour grow time - so cone bush, key, tower, tubby mush, optic mush - so they can fit in with BO / island quests
b)the current grading levels - I cant imagine anyone having the time to win 30 growing races in a month

Lins31

I like growing races - They are fun. I have so far won 4 – Part 2

1c) I also like no of plants is hidden as you really don’t know what you are up against.
More people would use fertiliser or rubies if they could see what they are up against – and it would favour late arrivals to the race

2c) I dislike the length of time results get to come through – I appreciate you have to wait for race to finish + growing time – but results take much longer than that to come through

3 + 4) Suggestions for improvement
a) more variety of plants
b) more / different grading levels My suggestions are
0 win category
Under 25, under 50 and under 75 level of experience category
Under 5 and 10 transformations category

If anyone wants hints on how to improve their yield – please visit me in game.

When the growing races were intruduced I tried it once and then didn't try again. But when they became part of island tasks I started doing them. In fact currently I have won 8 races. And I do not use fertilizers. Some of those wins I got when I was on a pretty low level and didn't have use of my full field and higher level spells. That's what I like about those races... that it's a challenge. Generally I have one goal when I enter the race and that is that I want to end up at least in top 5. Sometimes that does not happen. I have seen those huge amounts that some people manage to harvest... so I didn't have a prayer to win that time, but maybe next time I will.

The reason why I sometimes participate in those races:
1)island tasks
2)I'm trying to get a harvest medal for some plant ( 5k/10K medals). I would not manage to convince myself otherwise to suddenly start for example growing pewter dews. But to grow them sometimes for 30minutes, is not that boring or annoying.
3) I put the plants i get into big order, since we get to keep the plants regardles whether we win the race or not.

I do not feel guilty for winning those races. I take them as a challenge. In fact when I got the task to get a first place in growth race shortly after I transformed..i thought I was going to need to throw a new task, but I suppose i got lucky and I really really tried my best and that time it worked. And I didn't use fertilizers nor am I with that high transformation number.

So it is possible to win those races, you just gotta have patience and will to try again.

1. What do you like about the growing races?
That it's a challege. You just have to do your best and only when the race ends you can see how much others managed to harvest. I like that we can only see our own position during the race.
2. What aspects don't you like?
Sometimes the selection of plants is limited. For example if I want to do race with pewter dews, but no growth race with that plant is avaible.
I think the task on islands to get the first place is really tough and can be tricky to get.
3. What would you like to see as part of the growing races?
Maybe some new plant types added.
4. Which aspects can be improved and how?
More categorys depending on character level/transformations etc.

1. What do you like the races of growth?
They are comfortable to do some 'gold quickly without needing the cooperation of other villagers, useful for some tasks of the islands.

2. What aspects you do not like?
They are limited to a few plants

3. What would you like it to be added to the race for growth?
Awards more interesting than gold (rubies, free throw of the dice, gold accounts for a few days, or little help expand the field for a few days, ...) and the involvement of more plants.

4. What aspects could be improved and how?
Reduce the time of the competitions by reducing the time involved in plant growth only during the race so you can add even more profitable and long plants to grow

This seems to be a touchy subject for some players and it's a little sad that so few of us enjoy the growing races. I have nothing new to say, since those who enjoy the growing races seem to have the same reasons.
1. What do you like about the growing races?
When I need a short growing crop for the questies, or anything else, it's nice to have the extra challenge. I might not win very often (more than a month since I last won one), but it's nice to have the chance.

2. What aspects don't you like?
Not enough 30 minute races. My attention starts to wander after 20 minutes. ;)

3. What would you like to see as part of the growing races?
More rewards would be nice, as would more plants

4. Which aspects can be improved and how?
Have a few shorter and longer times for races.

1. What do you like about the growing races? I like that I can try to win a prize
for something I need to grow anyway.

2. What aspects don't you like? That it is mighty difficult to win because someone with higher
level and trans, usually beats me by a tremendous amount of plants.
But I have won two. I think everyone else was sleeping LOL

3. What would you like to see as part of the growing races? I would like to see different types of growing races. leave the one that is in place now and also ADD another which is divided into
groups of similar lvls and no trans for one group; and so on for the rest. That might make it so more people would like it.
I would like to see more plants avail in the competitions. I would like more
30 min races avail. Maybe we could we have more than 5 places?...and a boobie/consolation prize? LOL that would be funny
and cute!

4. Which aspects can be improved and how? Well I agree with many here, I do not enjoy the Deer/Portal quests to have the growing races as the quest for the clearing. (but, I don't like complicated dragon races as a quest there either, unless it is
just win a fast race LOL how about a quest that says Lose a dragon race in last place!)
As you can probably tell I am still in Meadow world and after reading here in the forum about what is to come,
my knees are shaking to read some of the other upcoming Portal Worlds requirements, yikes! lol

But I do think the growing race should stay because there are people who do enjoy it!!! Just add another aspect to it.

btw, I also want to mention how NICE it is to ask for our feed back!!! That is just so great : )

I myself do not like the growing races, the wait times are way too long.

You can only do them if you have an entire field of spaces to have a slight chance of placing.
I don't do them. I won't do them for portal quests either, i will Roll the dice to get new quest.

havnfun2
4th November 2015, 12:02 AM
I truly hate them, the times to finish are way too long.
You can only expect to place if you are completely playing with a full field which requires a minimal chance of winning an expanded field or spending money to expand field.

I don't and won't participate

Mira Council Listens ....:-)

Me - 1 hour after transform now level 5 - just turned 6
Finds under 25 level plant races
At level 6 with 18 slots available (and I will not be using fertiliser - and am too small to water)
I will see if it possible to do them ;-)

16th November 2015, 07:28 PM
Umm - feedback trying to grow carrots a level 6 is very painful
It took me three harvests to get min entry level of 90!

Did not help my field is on winter - and carrots love Autumn - I was level 6 through the whole race

However - grow race are possible - however small you are
I took 2nd place out of 4 - and am very happy with the result
